Dot Com Pho – Entrepreneur Heroes Edition 13 March 2010 at 7:33 pm by admin

Dot Com Pho returns to Happy Pho for another excitement filled episode. This time we had seven people showed up to dine on a variety of Pho dishes (mostly consumed by Chef Aaron Koo AKA the new Stephen Fung). To makes thing even more happy, Michael Yurechko discovered that Happy Pho had wireless Internet access (not in the restaurant but nearby).

This episode of Dot Com Pho celebrates the heroes of entrepreneurship. Evan Carmichael came up a great idea for trading cards featuring famous entrepreneurs. The entrepreneurs were selected by 33 famous bloggers (of which I am one). The bloggers were asked to name their favorite entrepreneur. That entrepreneur is featured on the front of the card and the blogger who selected him is featured on the back.

All process from the the sales of Entrepreneur Heroes trading cards goes to Kiva. They will use the money to help entrepreneurs in third world countries. The Entrepreneur Heroes trading cards goes on sale in April. Pre-order your packs today and save 20% off the regular price – only $3.95 per pack of 5 cards instead of $4.95. + Dot Com Pho – Post Olympic Blues Edition By admin 06 March 2010 at 11:06 pm and have No Comments

Now that the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games are over, we’re all suffering from post Olympic blues. The blues have especially hit hard for Ed Lau, who has been cruising downtown everyday hoping to find a street party that is no longer there. Seeing the sad state everyone was in, it made sense to hold this edition of Dot Com Pho at Happy Pho because if anyone can cheer us up, it would be Happy Brian.

Joining us for this Pho get together were the regulars like Aaron Koo, Michael “FATal1ty” Yurechko, Wolfgang, Christl, Bonnie and Marilyn. Ed finally realized there wasn’t going to be a block party at Robson Square and showed up last. We were also joined by the George Moen, the President of Blenz Coffee. I want to thank George for giving everyone who showed up at Dot Com Pho, Blenz coffee for life. I plan to make maximum use of that!

+ Can I Afford To Buy Twitter? By admin 05 March 2010 at 8:25 pm and have No Comments

Twitter is worth an estimated $1.5 billion. For most of us, it’s a figure that we simply cannot afford. However, if your name is Mark Z and you have $300 million in cash and $4 billion in Facebook stock, the story might be a little different. Still, Mark wasn’t sure if he could afford Twitter so he decided to call up financial guru Suze Orman during her “Can I afford it” segment to see if Miss Orman would approve of Mark spending $1.5 billion on the micro blogging platform.

Did Suze Orman approved or denied Mark’s request to buy Twitter? Watch the video to find out the answer.

+ Dot Com Pho – The Gadget of Last Year Edition By admin 27 February 2010 at 8:40 pm and have No Comments

For this final Dot Com Pho of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games, we decided to head back to Pho Thai Hoa to try out more items from their newly revamped menu. We were joined by Ronald Lee from Man Meet Woman. Ronald said he’ll be bringing a couple of friends along. We assumed the friends would be some hot women since Ronald is a world famous pick up artist. Instead, he brought along two guys and our weekly pho meet up was once again male dominated.

In addition to the two dudes, Ronald also brought what he thought would be a great gadget of the week. However, it turns out Ronny was behind the times because we’ve featured his gadget over a year ago. All was not lost however as we did have a gadget of the week that saved the day.

For this week’s Dot Com Pho we have the real gadget of the week, comparing food photos on the menu to the real food you get served, killing off background noise and how I plan to buy drinks for all the medal winning Olympians. Enjoy!

+ Checking Out The Action At LiveCity Vancouver 2010 By admin 27 February 2010 at 9:58 am and have No Comments

LiveCity Vancouver is one of two live cities in the downtown core (the other is LiveCity Yaletown). The two live cities have a big open space with a huge screen so people can watch the Olympic games live – the place is completely packed during any of the Canadian hockey games. In addition to the live viewing space, LiveCity Vancouver houses the Manitoba Pavilion, the Canada Pavilion and a beer garden.

The Manitoba Pavilion has literally nothing in it, which is proper since the Province of Manitoba has literally nothing in it. The bigger Canada Pavilion is where all the action is. Inside, you can take photos with the Olympic torch and view interactive displays. The beer garden is wall to wall people during a hockey game.

All the pavilions will be shutting down this Sunday. On Monday, the city will try to return to normal after 17 days of games, partying and having the eyes of the world on it. Vancouver 2010 has been a total blast. If your city ever tries to make a bid for the Olympics, I recommend you back it 100 percent. You can worry about the bill afterward.

+ Dot Com Pho – Eat Like An Olympian Edition By admin 20 February 2010 at 9:30 pm and have No Comments

We may not be able to skate or ski like an Olympian but we can certainly eat like one. And Pho Thai Hoa at 1625 Kingsway in Vancouver is a good a place as any to eat you heart out. With a totally revamped menu with extremely colorful photos, we were tempted left and right to try everything the restaurant had to offer.

Attending this week’s Pho get together were Ed Lau, Aaron Koo and myself. It seems everyone else was too tired from walking and lining up at Olympic events to wake up in time for Pho. What a bunch of wimps! At any rate, we still had a great time and filmed an awesome episode for you to enjoy.

For this edition of Dot Com Pho we have eat until you can’t eat no more, pig feet with hair, a soda made with a raw egg, MSG soup, a salad made with beef jerky, Vancouver 2010 for xBox 360 by Sega, win an Apple iPad, how to make the female Olympic curling teams sexier than they already are and my plan to buy out Vancouver after the Games.

+ Welcome To Yahoo! FANcouver By admin 20 February 2010 at 10:05 am and have No Comments

Our Vancouver 2010 Olympic adventure continues with a trip down to Yaletown to check out the Yahoo! FANcouver welcome center. Yahoo! seems to be the only Internet based company to have a presence in the Olympics. Their welcome center had a broadcast station, free wifi, hot chocolate and coffee, photo stations and rolls of iMac to check your Gmail Yahoo! Mail.

The Yahoo! FANcouver center is located at the site of the old Mini Yaletown (1039 Hamilton Street). I mistakenly said that Mini went under and Yahoo! took over the location. That was not the case. Mini Yaletown moved to a temp location during the Games.

When I went to check my email on one of the public iMacs, I discovered that the last user forgot to log out of her Gmail account. I had complete access to it. let this video serve as a reminder to always log out when using any public computers.
